Our why

In the Covid spring of 2020 like so many I was grounded—homebound hands raw from endless washing, surrounded by harsh gels and sanitising wipes that felt like the only option. In that strange uncertain time, the idea for a healing balm began to surface. If the Chinese could build a hospital in five days, surely I could birth a balm!

I became obsessed—not just with making something anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal—but something that could heal as well as protect. I didn’t want to just fight the elements. I wanted to nourish what was underneath. Healing is an inside job.

I turned to the ingredients I’d grown up with—my overzealous South African mother used to slather us daily in Shea and Cocoa Butter. Those rich familiar textures formed the base. I added Sweet Almond and Olive Oil then carefully blended essential oils known for their healing properties into something that felt... alive.

The first batch went into an old cosmetic jar. It looked a bit rough but the moment I used it my skin began to recover—and I felt an immediate connection to the earth, plants and the wisdom held in each ingredient which carried its own quiet frequency, a kind of knowing. And the scent? Utterly transportive. Still to this day it’s what captivates everyone who uses it transporting them to much loved locations and moments held in their unique sensory memories. Everyone smells something different, but what it stirs is always the same: recognition.

Since then, I’ve gifted countless jars, tweaked the formula, and—most importantly—listened. I’ve collected stories from mothers, children, tattoo artists, teenagers, musicians, and elders. I’m not allowed to make medical claims (so I won’t), but let’s just say: if fingers dipping into pots could speak, they’d tell you everything you need to know.

I’ve always been guided by a desire to bring comfort and healing wherever I can. I didn’t expect that to present as skin balms—but I’m deeply grateful it has.

These balms were made for me. Now they’re for you. I hope they bring softness, care, and a little plant magic into your everyday life—just as they have for me.

With love,

Oorsika

  •  The Balm

"I was gifted this beautiful balm while I was pregnant. The smell is incredible—lemony eucalyptus with clove and cinnamon. I packed it in my hospital bag, and after my daughter was born, I used it as a nipple balm. It’s all natural, so I knew it was safe for her. I never had any cracked or dry skin, and now the scent will always remind me of those special days."
